If That is Their Best Effort, Then You Know What It Is

I have been saying from the very beginning that the shrillness of the demand for a separate state of Telangana is quite disproportionate to the support for the demand. I have also been saying that its support is quite shallow. And I have also been saying that a large section of the population of the Telangana region is not in favour of division of the state.

I have in various forums cited the results of general election and by-elections since 2004 to show that the demand does not have a consistent and convincing popular endorsement.

Yesterday’s Telangana March – called Kavathu – more than bears me out. It was a whimper.

This is the latest indication that the agitation had no bona fide steam and has run out of whatever it could gather with the help of false propaganda. Its shrillness also is now in the process of correction and is winding down to match its actual strength.

There is one more important pointer in yesterday’s event. The leaders who are persisting with this agitation thus far are doing so only to jostle for some political space for themselves. The fact that most of the leaders yesterday were evidently unenthusiastic is a clear proof that they began to see it less and less as a vehicle for their career progression. Most of the leaders’ presence yesterday was just a token.

It was by far the best effort by the votaries of the division of the state.  If the number of people that assembled in the necklace road is any indication of the support for the cause, it is indeed paltry. The organizers claimed that about three lakh people attended. Observers of the event estimated the crowd was somewhere around a lakh. Those numbers were the high points. However, when the organizers announced that the march had concluded, there were hardly 2,000 people there.

The best effort is quite unimpressive.

The organizers who planned to stage a sit in till a separate state was announced, had to beat a hasty retreat. The assembled crowd was not willing to oblige.

That says a lot about the agitation, doesn’t it?

    ప్రియ ప్రభాకర్ గారూ,

    నమస్కారము.

    నేను సమైక్య రాష్ట్రము కోరుకునే అనేక కోట్ల ప్రజలలో ఒకడిని.

It appears that you have missed a point. The Government has tried its best to see that the March or Kavathu fail., by influencing the Ralilways, RTC etc., to see that many who support Telangana do not attend the meeting.

But, do you think that if there are ten lakhs or fifteen lakhs people would have made a difference?

There is no justification in demanding a seperate state that too after garnering major cake of the state budgets by Telangana.

Kindly try to bring out the various Government budgetary allocations and money spent on various projects on Telangana and compare with other regions of the state, which will be informative to all who cry for a seperate state.

Hope that you will continue to fight for a United State in your own right way.

Mr. Sarma: Yes people matter, we are in a democracy. Kumar Chowdary Yadav’s < 200 votes in Sanathnagar 2009 & Comrade Somidi Srinivas's < 800 votes in Parakala 2012 are clear indicators that the people do not support anti-Telangana groups.

    Namaste Prabhakhar garu:

It was disgusting to watch the coverage of yesterday’s march by the Telugu TV channels. Non-stop coverage for the last 2 days, as if nothing else is happening in the state or in the country. There were a number of Samaikyandhra events happening throughout the rest of A.P., but all the TV channels could muster in their reporting were a few tiny scrolls at the bottom of the screen. These Samaikyandhra events did not have the money or muscle power like the T-march in Hyderabad–there was no strong T-JAC or a commited party like TRS for crowd mobilization. Nevertheless, these events happened in many districts of the kosta and rayala regions.

Sri Kodandaram boasted 1crore people, while even the high point of say 1lakh is just about 1% of the boasted number. Still, they will say it is representative of “4.5 crore” heart beats. Intellectuals like yourself should find more TV time and expose their biased coverage. Would you not do it Sir?

      Mr. Sarma:

How many people attended the so called samaikyavadi “events”? The TV coverage showed only the folks on the stage, not the attendance.

I am surprised to note your claim of lack of money & muscle. TGV (the chief guest at the next VMS “event” in Kurnool) is a super rich individual with a strong group of “sainikis”. Lagadapati (a man who personally paid for 5 minute ad spots every half hour on ten channels for two weeks) was the main speaker at one of the “events”. Crony capitalists like Lagadapati, Kavuri, Rayapati, TSR & Venugopal Reddy are in the forefront of the anti-Telangana cacophony.

Gilded cage intellectuals like Prabhakar should come out in the streets to understand the ground reality. My first hand account at jaigottimukkala.blogspot.in disproves the myth these “A/C room analysts” are trying to spread.

Anyway thanks for the suggestion that Prabhakar should find even more TV time than his status requires. This is what he is fishing for 🙂

No doubt you are the best judge of what is a paltry turnout. Your own “meetings” with a ragtag group of a dozen odd folks clearly represent an overwhelming majority of Telangana opinion.

What turnout are you expecting at your Kurnool mega event? Your best effort so was a handful of the same old faces consisting of senile commies, foreigners & unemployed politicos.

You are not just a hypocrite but you are a comedian making fool of yourself. Now it is crystal clear why all political parties including worthless Chiranjeevi’s PRP kicked you out of their parties.

When 4 lakh people make it to the March facing bullets, teargas and arrests, when more than double in number have been stopped on the way by Police, for you is it not enough?

Did you ever manage to get more than ten people’s attendance into your comedy VMS meets? Did you check how many have made it to the Samuel’s Samaikyandhra march? If you are not blinded with bias you must be a buffoon.

it is not a bad effort for a movement that is filled with so much gas. But yes the crowd pulling ability and bandh enforcing ability has come down.

    @viswaroop
“When 4 lakh people make it to the March facing bullets, teargas and arrests, when more than double in number have been stopped on the way by Police, for you is it not enough?”

Enough for what ? Enough to initimidate, scare, frighten the opposers of telangana state ?I dont think so. The only thing that can influence the opposers are facts, principles and morals. That did not change with the “kavathu”.

      @Kiran

      Enough for what ?
Enough for proving that the opinion expressed in the post is actually pathetic and beyond comprehension.

The only thing that can influence the opposers are facts, principles and morals.
And those are beyond your imagination.

“Enough for proving that the opinion expressed in the post is actually pathetic and beyond comprehension.”

You prove against an opinion ? That illustrates your arrgoance which thinks you are entitled to telling people what opinions they can have and your dumbness which thinks you can prove against an opinion

“And those are beyond your imagination”
Another bark without a bite. You belong to street if you think barking makes a point.
